Nintendo Switch 2 - 6 Big Changes CONFIRMED

After years of speculation and leaks, Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on its next-generation console: the Nintendo Switch 2. Set to release on 2nd of April 2025, the Switch 2 promises to evolve the hybrid gaming experience that made its predecessor a global sensation. Here’s a closer look at what’s in store.

Bigger, Sleeker, Smarter

Nintendo is leaning into a refined yet familiar design for the Switch 2, focusing on making the console feel more versatile and modern.

Expanded Screen Real Estate

Featuring an 8-inch display, the Switch 2 offers more room to game, making it a perfect fit for couch co-op or handheld adventures.

Dual USB-C Ports

A second port on top adds flexibility—charge and connect accessories without sacrificing one for the other.

Streamlined Joy-Cons

Redesigned with a sleek black or dark gray finish accented with stylish detailing.  Joy-Cons now click into the body instead of sliding on rails, for a more secure connection.

A new button on the right Joy-Con has sparked speculation Nintendo isn’t saying what it does, but the guessing game is half the fun.

Reimagined Kickstand

Building on the Switch OLED’s sturdy full-width design, the kickstand now doubles as a subtle handle, blending form and function.

The Dock, Redesigned

Smaller and rounder, the updated dock retains the built-in Ethernet port but leaves us curious about what else might be improved.

Compatibility and Games: What’s the Deal?

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will support both physical and digital Switch games, though with a few caveats. Some existing Switch games may not be fully compatible with the new console. While details are sparse, it’s worth keeping an eye on how this unfolds.

Cartridge Format

The Switch 2 features a single cartridge port, but it’s unclear if the current cartridges will slot in seamlessly or if new designs will debut.  Mario Kart 2.0 is the only confirmed game for now is a brand-new Mario Kart title. Nintendo hasn’t revealed its name, but fans are already buzzing with excitement.

Nintendo has mastered the art of keeping fans on their toes, and the Switch 2 is no exception. With its sleek design, enhanced features, and a growing list of games, this next-gen console is poised to build on the legacy of the original Switch. But questions remain: How will it perform? What surprises await? And, most importantly, what do YOU want from the Nintendo Switch 2?
